Happy Memorial Day 2011

We come, not to mourn our dead soldiers, but to praise them. ~ Francis A. Walker

Happy Memorial Day everyone.

Having served in the military and now having a daughter and step-son serving as well, memorial day has taken on a different meaning for me. Memorial day is that day of remembrance of the men and women that have paid the ultimate sacrifice to wrest liberty from the jaws of tyranny. It is an ongoing fight that requires the blood, sweat and tears of our family and friends too numerous to comprehend.

With our nation stretching globally this particular memorial day is also a good time to think about the other nations’ fallen that have stood hand in hand with United States’ citizens in facing oppression wherever it shows it’s ugly face.

While I may not agree with many of the policies of my country, today is about the loss of our best and brightest while they were shining serving us and paying the ultimate sacrifice.

I am proud of my daughter, and step-son, of my contribution, and of our service people and our allies for never letting the ideals of freedom extinguish in our time.

Have a wonderful Memorial day and have a wonderful meal in remembrance.

I know that I will!!
